What are stable blankets?

Stable blankets are warm, comfortable blankets used when your horse stays in the stable. They are not waterproof and less robust than outdoor blankets, but ideal for keeping your horse warm during cold periods, especially for clipped or older horses. The advantage of a stable blanket is that it is much more breathable than an outdoor blanket.

Key features

  • Various thicknesses: Available in different fillings, from light variants like 50 g to very warm models (up to 500 g), adapted to your horse and your conditions
  • Comfort & fit: Many stable blankets are anatomically shaped, with shoulder darts and T-bar closures for optimal freedom of movement and a good fit
  • Materials & lining: Use of sturdy outer fabrics like ripstop or 600 denier polyester combined with a smooth nylon or faux wool lining prevents chafing and ensures skin-friendliness
  • Safe and functional: Models often include cross surcingles, leg straps, and wide tail flaps for stability and extra protection

Why do you need a stable blanket?

A stable blanket provides extra warmth for your horse, preventing them from developing a thick winter coat. This helps avoid issues with drying after riding. The biggest advantage of a stable blanket is its breathability compared to a waterproof winter blanket. If you have the option to switch blankets, we always advise using a stable blanket in the stable and an outdoor/rain blanket over it when your horse goes outside for extra protection.
