What should you consider when ordering?

    Yes, definitely. Such rugs are ideal for changeable weather, as they keep insects out and prevent a wet back thanks to the waterproof inner layer with mesh sides for ventilation.

  • Are standard fly rugs waterproof?

    No, most fly rugs are made of breathable mesh material and are not designed to repel water. In rain, your horse will get wet under the rug.

  • Can my horse wear a fly rug in the rain?

    Logically, no. A mesh fly rug absorbs water, becomes heavy, can shift, and increases the risk of skin irritation. To keep your horse (partially) dry, it's better to use a fly rug with a waterproof top.

    Besides protection against rain and insects, the rug must remain breathable. A lining that is too warm or not breathable can be harmful in warm weather. Therefore, choose a material that wicks away moisture and ventilates.
